Poker chip is an important element in any home games; without proper chips, poker is no fun.
I still remember when I start playing this games, I had a few games in a friend’s home. Most of the players were beginners and novice players, and we did not have the proper equipments. We played on the dinner table with chips that were borrowed from two mahjong sets. First of all, the standard mahjong set of about 40 chips for each colour simply is not enough for a proper six player home game. In additional to that, the feel of playing with the traditional Chinese style mahjong set chips is simply way too different compared to what you get from poker chips. You know, poker players like to play with all sorts of things with poker chips. The way they stack them, they way they toss them into the pot, the sound that poker chips making when they hit the table, it is all part of the game. Without proper chips, the game is no fun.
Unfortunately, it is not that easy to find proper poker chips set in mainland China. Even though most of the poker chips in this world are already made in China, nearly all of them are shipped overseas.
Last week, I was asking my fellow players at my tables at Grand Lisboa where they get their poker chips. One Chinese guy told me about Ladies Street in Mongkok, Hong Kong having some decent ones, but I was told by another guy that those are low quality ones. It seems it is difficult to find top quality western style poker chips in this part of the world unless I order them from the internet. I can do that, but shipping cost is a problem. Poker chips are heavy, you know.
It is always a good idea to put poker chips at places where one most often play one’s home games. Do not try to carry poker chips around; it is hazardous to your health. Unless you need a serious workout.
